Barbecue Bridal Shower? Sure, why not it’s only December!

bridal shower invitations

Is actually a couple months ago, in fact my last BBQ was in August and I have never celebrated one this late in the year. But then I guess it is unseasonably warm this year. It was in the 70s the entire week and I would usually be pulling on my snow boots just to make it to the car at this time of year. And they try and tell me global warming is nonsense. But that is a post for another day.

I knew that I was going to be invited to a bridal shower soon. That is just how it is, there is the warning that an invitation is on the way. It is sort of like how you almost always know that there will be a surprise party for you when your friends all start acting suspicious.

When I got the envelope out of my mailbox I wasn’t surprised. It was pinkish red so it was a pretty good chance it was the invitation to the bridal shower or a Christmas card, but I knew it wasn’t the latter. None of my family has that good of taste. I always get the gaudy red one with some green splashed on it for good measure. This envelope had some lighter checkered print which also made it less Chrismasy and more bridal shower like. She my deductive skills are pretty sharp. And you just thought I watched Sherlock because I was shipping him with Watson. 😛

The surprising part was that the party was going to be a barbecue style couples shower. The couples part didn’t surprise me because I know both the bride and groom really well. And it is something they would do, but the BBQ part, that shocked me. One because one of them is a vegetarian and two it is going to be January when we’re standing around outside freezing.

I texted them and they assured me it wasn’t a misprint.

It seems like barbecues are a whole segment of the bridal shower business. I don’t know why it surprised me, this site even has a whole section dedicated the bridal shower invitations. The bridal shower picture at the top of the page is actually from their site. You didn’t actually think that I would post the invitation for my friends’ bridal shower did you? That would be a little creepy.

I’m fine with the idea though, I like it better than an old school bridal shower. I have been to a couple of those, somebody’s aunt usually hosted it and it consisted of several shades of boring. Bridal showers are only slightly better than baby showers in the fun department. At least here we get to have fun at the guest of honor’s expense. And since I love BBQ as long as it is of the veggie sort this one may at least have the potential to be fun.

Depending on how the bridal shower, or couples shower whatever you want to call it turns out, I am tempted to post again about the subject. Until then I will just leave you with my current impression on how it will be.

Footnote

I don’t deny that climate change exists. I was referring to the deniers among us who attempt to discredit or fail to see what others are trying to bring to their attention.

Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad

Harley Quinn’s Little Black Book was incredible. I loved the way the story progressed and the humor. That said. I am not a huge Batman or Joker fan. Just Harley, and when she and Ivy do crazy things together.

So this brings me to a dilemma. The whole Suicide Squad thing really isn’t my cup of tea. And I am skeptical how much Harley they will have. Still I love Margot Robbie in Focus. In fact she was about the only redeeming thing in the whole movie, when I learned that she would be playing HQ I was pretty excited. Then I remembered that she was going to be up against an all-star cast and I estimate that her screen time won’t be worth the ticket price.

Why couldn’t Warner just make a movie with HQ.

There is still plenty of time for them to change my mind though. The movie is scheduled for 5 August 2016 release.

Hummingbirds and the Colibri Family

I watched a documentation the other night over hummingbirds. And I was totally blown away. First I didn’t know that there were so many different varieties, I had after all only seen them on a few occasions in my life and they “all looked the same” to me.

But I was really way off. And I comes of no surprise that the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae) is the smallest living bird on earth.

Here is a little more information about the cutest of hummingbirds.

The M. helenae inhabits the entire Cuban archipelago. This includes the main island of Cuba as well as the Isle of Youth in the West Indies. Still the bee hummingbird is most often found in the mogote area of Cuba, though it can also be found in Playa Larga near Zapata swamp though this is an uncommon occurrence.

What I was most amazed about was this bird’s incredible size. Imagine a large bee and you will have a good idea how big these birds are.

LengthMass
2.0–2.4 in or 5–6 cm0.056–0.071 oz or 1.6–2 g

That is tiny.

What I also learned is that they also taken on the role of their namesake the bee, pollinating the plants that they feed on. This co-evolutionary has created a tight reliance on one another for survival.

Much of this is also true for other types of hummingbirds as well as those from the Colibri family.

Here are a few images that I was particularly fond of.

The Real View

I don’t know if you took the time to read my last entry. That would of course be the first entry on my new site. It started out as a practice post and never went any further. In fact I should never have posted it, or at the very least I should remove it, but I won’t.

Still, the title A Room With a View is better suited for a more rustic setting. When I hear that I think about my bedroom window growing up, we had a nice view of the mountains from there and since then I have been a mountain girl.

So as an apology for the initial journal entry I wanted to share something of that love.

This post contains 20 incredible shots of mountains that you will hopefully love as much as I do. They are varied and inspiriting, which makes them perfect for Homeroom 1.

Click on the images to see a larger version.

When you look at the mountains you really understand how small you are and how incredible our world is.

A Room With a View

Of course it was taken. Homeroom. You knew it wasn’t going to be there, but you tried anyway. That is what I told myself when I appended a single solitary one to the end of my desired name. Okay, so I take that back.

If only I was so creative. I actually picked it from the suggested alternatives they offered me. I would have gone wild tangent and picked, oh I don’t know. Something. Like I said I’m not that creative.

Still, that was then, this is now, I will just pretend I was being creative and put a one on the end. After all I’m a rebel, a wild grrl. :p

And with that little gem I end my initial entry to my journal. It is, a historic moment for us all.
